Indore Darwaza

The challenge of bringing together disparate functions that could otherwise stand on its own as a single entity; all under one roof by itself ineffectively demands the designer to create an equal platform not only for different functions but also for different people. Tapping on the innate potential of the historic precinct the “Darwaza” is a subtle architectural manifestation of a public space that invites one and all. It is an opportunity for the formal and the informal to coexist parallelly. The built form serves as a mere facility that fulfils the formal - functional component of the program which in turn complements the informal activities to unfold against the backdrop of the soon to be scenic river. The space is envisioned as one with a dual quality engaging both a gallavanter and a white-collar worker simultaneously.
