Farmar's Farm

DAHANU'S INHABITANTS CONSIST OF THE NATIVE WARLI PEOPLE. NEAR HILLS- FOOTHILLS AND HIGH PLAINS. OBSERVED COMMUNITIES ARE MOSTLY TRIBAL, WHO HAVE THEIR OWN AGRICULTURAL LAND AND PRACTICE PADDY FARMING ONCE IN A YEAR, LEAVING THE LAND UNCULTIVATED FOR REST OF THE TIME. DURING THE REMAINING PERIOD OF THE YEAR, THESE TRIBAL COMMUNITY WORK AS LABOURERS IN FISHING, ORCHARDS, NURSERIES. FEW FARMERS PRACTICE FARMING THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. THIS INDICATES HOW MOST OF, MUCH OF POPULATION HAS BEEN MARGINALISED AND HAVE TO SEEK FOR JOB OPPORTUNITIES BEYOND THEIR DOMAIN. EVEN THOUGH THIS REGION SHOWS GOOD DIVERSITY IN GROWING CROPS, VEGETABLES, FLOWERS, FRUIT TREES ETC. THEY ARE NOT USING THEIR LAND THROUGHOUT YEAR.
THE DESIGN APPROACH IS LOOKED AT FOR UNDERSTANDING THE DIFFERENT WAYS AND TECHNIQUES OF SUSTAINABLE FARMING TO FACILITATE A SUSTAINABLE MODULAR SYSTEM, THROUGH UNDERSTANDING OF THE PHYSICAL SETTING OF THE SITE AND TO USE ‘PADDY FARM LAND’ THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. WHICH LEADS TO GENERATE LOCAL ECONOMY FOR FARMERS, USING DIVERSIFYING CROP PATTERNS FOR BOTH SEASONAL AND LONG-TERM, USING EVERY SPACE OF SITE FOR PRODUCTION. WHICH WILL BE WORKED WITH LOW COST INVESTMENT METHODS THROUGH DESIGN FOR VARIOUS PARTS OF SITE AS A MODEL FOR THE REGION.
THE APPROACH LOOKS AT TWO LEVELS OF ENGAGEMENT.l.      A SYSTEMIC PROGRAM INVOLVING COMMUNITIES WILL LOOK AT SIMILAR AREAS GUIDELINES. ll.     DEMONSTRATING THE GUIDELINES AT A SITE LEVEL. MAJOR THINGS LOOKED AT IN THE PROJECT ARE; (1)  UNDERSTANDING OVERALL SYSTEM OF FARMING; (2)    CROP SYSTEM UNDERSTANDING; (3)   MAXIMUM UTILISATION OF LAND WITHOUT SPOILING ECOSYSTEM; (4)  DIFFERENT FARMING TECHNIQUES; (5)    PROMOTING RURAL INNOVATION; (6)  COMPARING PRESENT FARMING AND PROPOSED FARMING IN TERMS OF ECONOMY.
