Revitalizing a Living Heritage:Case of Khadia, Ahmedabad

Historic city centres have always struggled to transform itself to adjust to the modern standards of living. They have been the fields of conflict between conservation and modernization. On one hand, while the Walled city of Ahmedabad enjoys the title of the World Heritage City, on the other hand heritage has set on a declining path owing to the modern aspirations and needs, simultaneously degenerating the social and economic structure of the historic city centre. The studio attempts to bridge the gap between conservation and modernization in the old city of Ahmedabad through guided transformation aiding to the historic city revival.
