Auxetics

This work suggests a possible direction towards the development of a surface system based on a particular class of structure called "Auxetics" that have the intrinsic capacities to expand when stretched, contract when compressed and to display unconventional curvatures when bent.The design research is divided into three parts, firstly the property of the material and behavior of the pattern is studied, secondly a structural system to give a form to the auxetic membrane is devised and lastly analysis of the derived forms along with its appropriation in different design scenarios are discussed.
