ODHAV - AN INDUSTRY DEPENDENT RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD

This publication is the final output of the exercises carried out in the Foundation Studio of Master of Urban Planning course at CEPT, Ahmedabad. Land-use, the wider context of transport and infrastructure, the relationship between people and settlement pattern, public spaces and other parameters have been engaged while discussing the precinct of Virat Nagar, Odhav. Since the book has grown out of field research on a variety of topics, the main motto is to understand the urban aspects and complex relationships that leverage cultural, economic and social forces that provide habitable surroundings. The book has been structured in such a way that it will convey about the quality of life of people living in the precinct. The disciplinary approach towards understanding an area was firstly to visit and get acquainted with the site. After the first two exercises, the field visits comprised of interviewing local people, clicking subject related photographs which were further analyzed and the relative facts and data were extracted out of it. The sheets produced during all weeks’ exercises, gives an outlook and variety of theories which contributes to what is discussed and concluded in the chapters of this book.
