Life Between the Buildings

“Life between the buildings" is an abstract analysis of the studio where the precinct is analyzed from the perspective of the people living in the precinct. The city of Naroda,is a fast growing urban residential area located in the eastern side of Ahmadabad (Kuber Nagar Area). The history of the area proves that it was once a prominent industrial area which later got converted into a residential zone. The working-class people find this area ideal for setting up residential zone because of various factors. The residents of the city have seen almost three phase of transition, from an industrial set up to a residential zone and now to a fast-growing commercial zone. The built form and characteristics have also changed in course of time. The Narol-Naroda highway is the major road that runs in the precinct. Majority of the activity generators are located here and the nearby areas. At the present-day situation, Naroda lies somewhere between a residential setup and a commercial corridor but because of this transition the green spaces and the open spaces are getting reduced. In terms of livelihood major section of the society belongs to the working category with varying income and expenditure pattern. The overall analysis of the precinct, through the perspective of the people would help understand the variation that has happened over the years from industrial zone to a residential area and then to commercial zone.
