Urban Spontaneity

The studio focuses to faster understanding towards the city. It aims at expanding our ability to read the city and have an urban reality of the complexity of any city. Thus the dynamism of a city was studied by taking Ahmedabad as a case study. A theoretical approach was made followed by an analysis of the current status and the potential were identified. For this a square kilometre precinct was studied in detail. This study incorporated aspects like observing, mapping and representing the data collected. An area of one square kilometre from Naroda, North East of Ahmedabad and in close proximity to Airport was chosen for this analysis. Naroda is an industrial area which is surrounded by residences. The precinct is part of Naroda which is predominantly residential. Being at the outskirts this area has an organic settlement pattern. To get a more clear perspective of the city a micro level analysis was done for this area. The field of study included the study of the grain, its history, settlement pattern, infrastructure and services. This was then compared to the surrounding precincts and whole of Ahmedabad so as to understand a larger image of the city and the distinct characteristics. Thus, we get to explore the dimension of a city and get to read different perspectives.
