FROZEN ROYALTY OF SHAHIBAUG

The precinct is located in the eastern part of central Ahmedabad. The precinct is surrounded by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel museum, Circuit House, Police Training Quarter, Army Cantonment, etc. Thus, the precinct gained importance in terms of housing since the period of growth of industries. The area started developing as residential land for elite with old detached, semi-detached bungalows, row houses and low-rise apartments with low population density, ground coverage and FSI. The large land owned by elites were developed as housing societies, Private hospitals, schools. The housing societies developed are well planned and has good infrastructure sufficing the need of people even today. Hence the need for change is not felt. Construction of flyover increased the through traffic in the precinct. But there has been barely any change in the public infrastructure like parking spaces, BRTS, places for recreation, etc. to cater to the increasing demand of the area. Basic commercial activities are restricted to the Shahibaug flyover road while in rest of the area stagnant development can be seen.
