Sabarmati : Knot of Co-existence

Understanding the city fabric of Ahmedabad by studying a small urban knot Sabarmati has unearthed learning about different attributes of urban life. The foundation studio answered the questions of the complexity of each knot being distinctive yet weaved as one fabric of urbanism. The precinct explored is located in north-west part of Ahmedabad, governed by the local body - Ahmedabad Municipal corporation (AMC). It initially being in the suburb zone between Ahmedabad and Mehsana invited people to move out from the core city and migrants from various parts of the country which led to the start of development. In this settlement, infrastructure connectivity, low land prices and privatisation of Torrent powerhouse as jobcentre played a vital role. The neighbourhood developed socio-economically witnessing both higher- and lower-class settlement growth. The small urban knot of 1 sq. km studied from a whole urban fabric of city contemplates that city functions with a give and take relation.
