This studio explored different aspects of the planning process through a project of an area plan (ward plan). Students learn and apply basic principles of urban planning, and engage in key debates in the profession as part of this studio. 10 different wards of the city were studied by the students in groups.

The aim was to prepare A Ward Development Plan for a municipal ward within the city of Ahmedabad. The vision for the ward ensures efficient use of resources and inclusive development by improving mobility, enhancing green spaces, regulating Transit Oriented Zone (TOZ), improving physical infrastructure and standard of living.

The proposal includes regulating area under TOZ for efficient functioning and creates opportunities by improving BRTS section for various users and by imposing proper building regulations and bye-laws. It proposes to provide connectivity, proper accessibility, and channelized flow of traffic for efficient mobility through junction redesigning, improving pedestrian connectivity, Non-Motorized Transport (NMT) and first-last mile connectivity. It promotes recreational spaces, street activities and NMT to create a serene environment by proposing more green cover, pedestrian pathways, cycle track and market. It also proposes to improve living conditions of the lower income group in the ward by providing playgrounds, dedicated work space, proper connectivity and community-based solid waste management.
