The architectural site is a Hotel at Bodhgaya (where Buddha attained enlightenment), Bihar by SJK Architects. It is a spiritual retreat and wellness center for tourists and pilgrims. The duality of polar opposites of spirituality and luxury posed as a challenge which I have tried to translate through very minimal and bare interiors. the center courtyard forms the heart of the hotel leading to the Bodhi tree and all the spaces overlook and open out into it. Various pods have been created in all spaces through interior elements ( eg. high back chairs in restaurant) to create sense of detachment.
