Environment and Natural Resources Sector

The study was done as a part of the regional planning studio. The aim was to study the existing environmental scenario of the Vadodara metropolitan region.  The approach was to study the various indicators like forest cover, water quality and quality, impact on air quality and soil quality so as to understand the exiting condition of the natural resources and overall environment in the region. The main aim was to identify the conditions in order to prevent and reduce the negative externalities of urban growth though the regional plan.

Environment and Natural Resources Sectoral Analysis

The indicators that were considered for this sector

Looks at how the land use has changed over the years and what impact has it had on the natural resources

Taluka-wise change in forest cover is shown which tells us the major forest areas within the study area

Soil fertility and salinity has been analysed and from that the talukas which are critical have been highlighted

Water quality and quantity have been analysed and from that the critical areas have been highlighted

A coastal regional analysis has been done which shows the problems around the coastline

An industrial impact on air quality study has been done so as to bring out the highly air polluted talukas

Post analysing various indicators, a comparative analysis of how each taluka was performing under each indicator was done. Through this study, an overall regional plan was developed for environment and natural resources sector.
