Passive Comfort Lab

The Lab course combines 3 type of modules: Core/Lectures for discussing Concepts and Practices, Simulation for Virtual Experimentation, and Measurements for Physical Experimentation. It includes the basics of building physics, thermal comfort, ventilation needs, climate response, and passive comfort strategies. The coursework is designed to be very hands-on. This is comprehended by using handheld and long-term monitoring devices. Further, site visits, literature review, manual calculations aids to understand in-depth knowledge about passive (cooling and heating) comfort design techniques including theory (thermal mass, shading, ventilation, radiation, evaporation, and earth contact). Whereas, using state of the art tools helps to conduct simulations and assess building energy performance.
