Delimitating the Library: Central library of Baroda

Programmatically designed in its time as a means to float information as far and wide as possible, the new intervention is thought of keeping this in mind with an intention to bring learning out of the library, not confined in the shell. Interior of the space is visualized as a cloud of information. Cloud of information is derived as the fourth layer with the other three layers already present in the space in form of material diversity and historical progression through the years 1910, 1931 and 2010. The fourth layer- the cloud, reflects technology and aesthetics of the present time not demeaning the past but using the clues from past as a reference to step into the future. Letting- the past be a subtle memory while present takes charge. With a sense of continuity reflected in the space through the spatial organization, the cloud varies with the quantum of information it carries. Predominantly there are four elements in the space - those that disseminate information, those that absorb information, those that support the activity of dissemination and those that support the absorption of information. All those elements that support dissemination of information seek porosity, and all that support the activities of absorbing information, retaining information seek greater density.Overall experience visualized is that of a voluminous space with elements holding/supporting information almost ambiguous, acting as an invisible backdrop to let elements that disseminate information or absorb information stand in the spotlight.
