Ahmedabad has completed more than 600 years of its existence. The historic city has the ceaseless evolution and it emerged as one of the most compelling cities through its tradition, culture, practices and systems, well integrated with historical monuments, it is one of the unique examples of living heritage in the world. Its uniqueness lies in traditional water practices with stepwells, tankas and lakes which still exist and is well integrated. Ahmedabad being a living heritage, up keeping of urban (sanitation) services need to be an integral part of the old city of Ahmedabad.
