The course involved the study of climate, building physics, psychometry, thermal comfort and passive comfort strategies. Apart from lectures, various hands-on exercises were done involving measurements and experiments such as designing and performance testing of a Solar Cooker to understand the concepts. Development of shading masks to understand building shading requirements and measurements of air temperature, humidity and wind velocity were done to understand ventilation needs. Simulation module covered the impact of various aspects of the building geometry and envelope components on building heat gains and cooling loads along with a cost-benefit analysis for the same.
