Shastrinagar, the common home

During our first weeks in Ahmedabad we noticed that the responsibility towards people's environment often ends outside their home. When we visited Shastrinagar we noticed a repetition and the quarter had no character. We have set ourselves the goal that our transformation of Shastrinagar will lead to more responsibility towards the neighbourhood. This should be achieved above all by strengthening the community feelings. On the other hand, the entire quarter is to be rebuilt in stages. As a result, the current residents will not lose their homes and Shastrinagar will not be rebuilt repetitively, but it will interact again and again with the existing context. In addition, the quarter should have a higher building density to accommodate additional people from various social backgrounds. These goals are to be achieved primarily on the basis of an elaborated guideline in theory. Subsequently, the construction stages can take place, which must adhere to the guideline. We did the development of the guidelines in a group work. Subsequently, We assigned the first two transformation stages to ourselves and designed our respective interventions.
