REIMAGINING ADAJAN, SURAT.

Adajan, Surat is situated along the banks of the river Tapi and is a new westward extention of the city. Being at the bank of the river, the site forms a low lying area which is prone to severe floods in the monsoons and the ward encountererd a flood in 2006. To promote flood mitigation for the site, wetlands are prposed at the bank of the river, with a canal proposed at the HIgh Tide Line which will be assissted by developing dikes. The site of Adajan can be distinctively categoirized under three precints as the newly developed high rises, the gamtal and the row housing plotted development which results in different demand for public spaces and to avoid a conflict iamongst the stakeholders is the primary focus. The site has a BRTS corridor runs east to west and hence forms a transect through the sites. The corridor holds a potential for being developed under the TOD approach and with the proposed MRTS, the prospect of TOD becomes a vital intervention.
