Pop-Up gallery_Deployable Structure

A pop-up gallery is a kinetic system which is designed to be deployable, lightweight and transportable. This system is attached with a mechanism which controls its movement and makes the system feasible to operate. This project focuses on a site-specific design, in Naggar, Himachal Pradesh catering to the lack of exhibition spaces in the area and also to support a budding artist residency. This space can be used by the artists and also the locally crafted products by the craftsmen of the area. The system has been designed to ensure the easy transportation of the system in the hilly area, its weight and strength to withstand the harsh weather of the area.
A system of scissor joints is designed which is controlled by a ballscrew mechanism allowing a smooth and quick opening and closing of the system from one control point. The structural members are in aluminium pipe sections with aluminium casted joinery and a PTFE forms the surface of the whole structure, which helps to achieve optimum light inside the structure. The whole system together can be packed and transported which saves time from installing each member again.
