SECURITY AND SURVEILLANCE

An Indian railway station is typically overcrowded and easy to penetrate and attack. Substantial casualties can easily be inflicted with a Bomb attack. Further the railway track passes through vast stretches of forests and rural areas. These areas are difficult to patrol and provide protection to. Being a symbol of the central government, the Indian Railways (IR) are the focus of acts of vandalism and are an easy target of a number of agitations against the government –whether the state or the central government. The security and safety risks at a train station can include vandalism and graffiti, theft, drug dealing, fire, and acts of terrorism. Managing them is a challenging task, since many different areas need to be monitored: tracks, underground passageways, bicycle and car parking areas, buildings, luggage storage facilities, and parked railway cars and engines. The lack of access restrictions at most train stations also means that there is a need for special solutions for monitoring all areas. Human Safety: the Number One Priority Like in many other areas of life, progress is also being made in connection with building, expanding, and modernizing train stations. As mentioned above security being the prime concern in today’s world. Ahmedabad Railway station being one of the areas where there too is a heavy passenger influx and out flow so safety and security becomes the prime most concern to ensure that the passengers feel safe and also making sure to monitor railway property, public activities and public amenities. There are a few reasons as to why Ahmedabad Railway Station, strongly needs a good equipped security system. This station falls under NSG-1 (Non Suburban group 1) category as it has passenger earnings of more than 500 crore and a footfall more than 20 Million per year . Railways stations are vulnerable to terrorist attacks and many other risks. Out of which , Ahmedabad Railway Station was one of the stations which has witnessed a bomb blast in the year 2006. Pertaining to which the security system at the railway station has been alerted but more serious measures yet need to be taken.. Ahmedabad being a Heritage City with many Tourists visiting everyday so safety is a prime concern at Railway Station as any compromise in the security would lead to many causalities, and absence of which would make tackling them difficult.
