Bridging The Gap

This project deals with the revitalisation of the bhadra plaza by using old and decadant broken buildings in the plaza to provide programmed and unprogrammed spaces in the plaza for all the people using and visiting the plaza with the main objective being to increase the interaction of the homeless people in the plaza with people from outside visiting the plaza within the physical limits of the plaza.

This is a cartograph showing the various activities of a homeless family living in the plaza. The activities include their activities as individuals and when they are together

These are some images and diagrams depicting how the family use the different spaces in the plaza in different ways as a group and as individuals

These images show the process of a performance in the plaza area where a temporary football field was set up in the open and the organizers played with the kids. This exercise made it known that the homeless in the plaza were very eager to interact with and explore the world outside the plaza, since the cartography showed their lives to be contained in the plaza confines.

The design process started with identifying certain pockets of dead space within the confines of the plaza with the idea being to revitalize the plaza for greater interaction among the homeless and the people from outside through these spaces

The design consists of 10 interventions. Five of these have specific programs which aim to attract the people from outside the plaza and start off their interaction with the homeless in the plaza. The other 5 spaces are open community spaces with the idea being to continue the interaction and help the homeless of the plaza integrate better into the outside world.
