Where to sit?Rejuvination:foodmarket µ intervention

Bhadra has complexities and nuances that need sensitive approaches. The project started with understanding the challenges people face related to the sitting spaces in the Bhadra Plaza due to inaccessibility, dis-comfort, encroachment, parking, unprogrammed-spaces etc. The project looks at these micro concerns at different spots of Bhadra plaza and intend to resolve them and create more comfortable, accessible and activated spaces. The implemented design by Doshi Consultants looked at several important interventions, the proposal takes further from it in accordance with the current issues faced by people but re-invorages the underused spaces and promotes food market as a key strategy to activate the area. The interventions function at different scales, at the macro-level the market is created and complete pedestrianisation of the area is done. At the smaller level the edges have been re-designed, material change and level differences created to channelize the areas for vendors and movement of people. The final stage is the micro-level intervention in sitting spaces, the steps, micro-modifications. Usually an individual’s comfort or interest in a public space lies on how indulging that space is, which is usually either through programmed-interactive spaces or food thus, using these fundamentals to approach the larger issue of Bhadra.
