The character of the old city is constantly changing as the land use has changed which has resulted in changing the character of the old city majorly due to the loss of local heritage and new development building new language of the old city. Over time the local heritage of the old city has vanished because of fulfilling the demands of the coming trends of commerce in old city. These changes in the old character is indicating that there is a disassociation between the local heritage and the people of Pune as they don’t connect with the heritage and hence don’t guilt on its loss. If this scenario continues then the day is not so far when the cultural capital of Maharashtra will then long for its lost heritage. How can the old character of the city be retained? There is a need to build this association of the people with the old city by making them value it. People will appreciate it the moment we give them opportunities of using these heritage space. Hence my approach towards this dying history of Pune is to link or create opportunities where people get to rebuild their association with the heritage.
