The introduction studio-I explored the relationship between different layers that amalgamate to form a city. Maninagar ward of Ahmedabad was selected as the area of study. The ward was divided into sixteen precincts of 1 square kilometer and respective precincts were chosen by each student of the class to explore in depth.
Maninagar is an important area of Ahmedabad city of Gujarat with an area of 2.74 sq.km. The ward is located in the southern part of the city., divided into two regions – Maninagar East and Maninagar West, separated by the Maninagar Railway Station. Precinct 6 of Maninagar is chosen as a study.
Precinct 6 of Maninagar showcases series of cytoskeletal networks serving as a connecting bedrock for vibrant transit and public mobility. Cytoskeletal networks mainly includes BRTS, AMTS, Railway Station, wider roads and public connectivity. Access to immediate surroundings of these transit facilities integrates the land use, built form and activities in the precinct.
The studio used various tools like site visits, surveys, interviews to understand the underlying history, networks, connectivity, land characteristics, infrastructure, public realm, housing typologies, jobs, income, livelihood and travel patterns of the precincts..
