Decoding a City Center

Development of western bank of Sabarmati river commenced due to congestion in the east and construction of Ellis bridge. Navrangpura started developing as a spill over of east Ahmedabad. Institutional development began due to efforts of the business community. People working at institutes, started living in surrounding areas. With growth of residential settlement commercialization began along C G road and new ashram road. Development happened as a response to the needs of the people rather than a futuristic plan. Therefore Navrangpura is an organically developed area. At present it has immense importance as it offers numerous job opportunistic. It is functioning as a city center. But it does not have adequate supporting infrastructure.. For eg. it has large block sizes which reduce the walkabilty. The negative externalities of organically developed CBD are experienced now. This portfolio gives an overview of of navrangpura precinct, its evolution and existing situation. It tries to explain the future possibilities for this area based on proposed projects such as Metro, Proposed CBD.
