Concrete Flourishing Realm

In the outer fringes of north-west Ahmedabad, near Science city road a developing area has been studied. Before 2000, the area was an agricultural green land and becoming a concrete flourishing realm since after Science city was inaugurated in 2001. The Sola village is the oldest part of the area which exists from last 30 years. The area has developed from agriculture to urban through a comparatively fast process, which underlines the drastic change in the character of this area.I have divided my understanding of precinct to spaces and people who live in or in-between them. To me, development of the space has taken place in two directions i.e. horizontally and vertically. Horizontal spaces like streets and land and vertical spaces like the built form. And the relation between the horizontal and vertical spaces define the feeling of wide and narrow space with different social activities. Wide and narrow space can be defined according to the height of the building and road width. Social activities are like people gathering in front of the residential area or roadside activities in front of a commercial junction. People practice particular lifestyles that can be characterized through their income, housing choices and their travel behaviour. The working people are defined by the jobs generated by the area. In future, there is a lot of scope for development. Most of the government land is vacant since the government is planning to build housing for S.E.W.S., gardens and develop the area. The cost that is required to develop the area is high since it is underdeveloped. Thus the precinct is a developing area in both horizontal and vertical direction flourishing to the concrete realm.
