Rural to Urban Transition tale of Thaltej

This Portfolio is the result of an analysis depicting the changing characteristics and evolution of the rural area to the semi-urban. By tracing such dynamics of rural to urban, changes over the years has been studied. Metropolitan cities, being extremely dynamic in nature undergo rapid changes in terms of development, population, and boundary limits. Unplanned development which is frequent in the peripheral regions of the metropolitan cities can lead to shrinking land resources and poor quality of life. A rural area when transforming into an urban area witnesses some portion which becomes urban villages. They are villages because they have been so in the past and they are urban because they lie within the intense influence of a metropolitan city. One such village is the Thaltej village. The agricultural and rural lands are now being replaced by the residential and commercial sector. The shift in employment can also be seen towards the service sector job profiles. The process of transformation of these villages which is known as urbanization is slow and similar in nature to that of those located within the urban limits. The growth is generally haphazard with narrow streets, poor level of services, inadequate social services, and negligible open spaces.
