In 83 countries 75% of pregnant women had at least 4 antenatal care visits. From 1990 to 2015, the global MMR declined by 44 % – from 385 deaths to 216 deaths per 100,000 live births, according to UN inter-agency estimates. This translates into an average annual rate of reduction of 2.3 %. In India, only 19% of the poorest people have a skilled attendant present during childbirth – the figure for the most affluent women is 89%.
