The aim of the STUDIO was to sensitize the students to the context of the Agariyas. A quick survey and site visit brought to light the hardships faced by the people of the Little Rann of Kutchh. A denotified community still affected by the stigma attached to their ancestory, these salt farmers toil in the desert to make ends meet. Yet after 9 months of hard labour these people leave the flooded plains to their home villages nearly empty handed.  This transient lifestyle every year consumes whatever little resources that the people are able to save.
The objective of the academia was to explore the possibility of an architectural intervention in the lives of the Agariyas to make their living and working more comfortable and efficient, an intervention that could bring about a positive impact on their health or shelter or education or work systems or all of the above. This was achieved in the form of a design of a Rapid deployable shelter system and a Research facility.
