Purpose of the report is to explain the design process achieved in the duration of Urban Design Studio 01. The focus of this studio is to look at the renewal projects within the functioning city. The premise is that sometimes in cities, development/redevelopment opportunities arise in the middle of a developed city. Increasingly our cities will witness such internal changes which provide opportunities for re-imagining the city. The studio will identify areas with renewal opportunities to develop an urban design proposal for them. Gandhinagar was designed by H K Mewada & Prakash Apte. It was designed keeping the Indian aspects of rural settlement in urbanised form. Currently, the city fails to perform as per its vision. Studio focussed on the aspect of reimagining the neighbourhood and living aspect of Sector 16, Gandhinagar, by analysing the sector through various parameters. The report explains the design process, approach, narrative and decisions made to come up with the design solution which focuses on the neighbourhood that is proportionally densi?ed, organised and structured for beer living.
