UNDULATING SAND

The main objective of this project was to study the behavior of a material and to develop a system that can be utilize to design an element for a railway station platform. To achieve this, we had chosen sand as our prime material onto which series of experiments carried out with various adhesive and hardening solutions, by doing so we have tried to understand the process. The initial experiments started with exploration of sand with various hardening solutions and was later carried on with fevicol solution. Sand being a self –organizing material and the forms obtained by self- forming which we had studied the behavior of sand with viscous liquid being poured from a fixed point which leads to branching system. The observations obtained from these series of experiments are mapped and then digitalize to create various design elements for the railway station platform by considering the circulation, user activity environmental factors and by keeping in mind the site context.
