Solid Waste Management Plan for Jamalpur Ward

The project aims to reduce the generation of waste at the source level. For that, a pilot area was selected and its existing patterns were studied in detail. The proposals are divided into two parts. 1) Road waste and the other 2) Household waste. A decentralized system is opted to generate recycled products at ward level itself. To achieve this, a time and motion study of the AMC sweepers was done and the conclusion out of that was most of them finished their beat before time. These sweepers would then be involved in the segregation process of road waste. Along with that, the fresh wet waste generated from the APMC market is composted at the segregation point which is at a walkable distance instead of being disposed at the Pirana. In consideration of part 2 proposal i.e HH waste, the number of door to door vehicles and their number of trips/day was noted. It was observed that most of the vehicles went half- filled to the RTS because the POI’s were missed as people are not aware of the exact collection time. Hence few POI’s were clubbed reducing to one or two trips maximum per day depending on the amount of waste generated in that area. The remaining POI’s were called pilot beats and a different mechanism of SWM was proposed for the same which included an innovative strategy for wet, dry and sanitary waste disposal.
