URBAN FREIGHT MANAGEMENT PLAN

Rajkot, an important urban center located in Saurashtra region, is fast emerging as a center of trade and commerce serving the state in general and the region in particular. The increasing intensity of traffic as a result of rapid industrial development and commercial development has resulted in manifestation of problems like congestion, delays, accidents, pollution etc. The objective of this Plan is to “Enhance accessibility, optimize mobility and improve travel experience for all” This is sought to be achieved by incorporating urban transportation as an important parameter at the urban planning stage rather than being a consequential requirement.
Rajkot as an Industrial hub need immediate action towards freight management for tackling current issues and possibly mitigate future issues also Along with recommended strategies, it is also suggested to incorporate Freight management Cell as part of City Transport Cell – which includes members of RMC + GIDC + Transport & Logistics to manage and operate task related to freight in the study area
