Ahmedabad Biennale

The Biennale, an event that occurs every two years, supports special cultural events and was initiated with the Venice Art Biennale, the original on which others in the world have been modeled. Starting as a contemporary visual art exhibition, the Biennale offers opportunities to present contemporary ideas on the arts and now includes architecture. The studio project, aimed to create an environment of debate and deliberation by introducing the idea of an ‘Ahmedabad Biennale’ within a city having a strong industrial history. The Biennale would act as a catalyst for change in the East Ahmedabad wherein the site is located. The project becomes an opportunity to generate a conversation between autonomous interpretations of how the quality of the architecture and urban public space can be retrieved and relocated within critical thought. It explored the challenge of creating design based on narratives in history and culture and its interpretation into spatial design. The project assumed the transformative role of architecture through the processes of reflective action.
