HOME OF CONTEMPLATION

LIBRARY FOR GANDHI FOUNDATION, RIVERFRONT, AHMEDABAD
CONCEPTUAL POSITION In todays time, when information is all around, this library tries to become a place of contemplation, as what our generation lacks is the afterthought to be done after encountering with information. This library attempts to create an environment of contemplation where a person can be with one’s own thought and become a haven of rest for the energetic mind in the urbanist lifestyle. And as the Mahatma’s ideology goes “Simple Living and High Thinking”..... OUTSET: Even an encounter with a great drawing or any good post on social media is flicked up within seconds without a second thought. LARGER DECISIONS FOR CREATING A CONTEMPLATIVE ENVIRONMENT - segregating the public and silent individualist functions - spreading the activities and user density across the site - divert the attention of the user to natural features by relooking at the notion of inside and outside - exploring silence and light and an atmosphere of awe - using expanse to create a sense of looseness/relaxation
