Interlattice System

The project explores interlocking as a technique, effect of different geomtries on system performance, material exploration and physical as well as digital modelling as tools for experimentation, assessment and analysis. The system consists of modular components, each component can futher be modulated into smaller elements, integral to the system. Thus, giving each module the flexibility to be unique in terms of the parameters - variables and constraints, to be deciphered basis the result to be achieved. The material explored included flexi-ply, rubber, cardboard and MDF. The system performed best in MDF fecilitated by laser cutting, hence was considered for the set of experiments so carried out. The forms achieved as a result of variable parameters were synclastic or anti-clastic in nature. Simultaneous evaluation was done to analyse the results and gather conclusions and inferences, which were used for further experiments. The system was finally used to design a roofing system for the site. Results of the environmental fitness criterias using grasshopper plugins were comprehended, and with minor design modifications advanced to achieve a the final form for the roof.
