The Hanging Cafe

The cafe sits at the edge of the Science Museum, the final space where people will come so that they may relax, ponder about the wonders that they have just seen, and have a bite. The cafe allows for that opportunity to trigger these kind of conversations. Populated by young school children as well as many higher education students from the university areas around- the cafe gives the user a chance to choose the kind of space they would like to be in- an open to sky deck on the rooftop, a relatively darker room with light filtering through just like the leafy tree canopy outside, or on a partly shaded ramp that suspends itself over the activities below. The existing building is used as the core of the project, whereas the ramp is suspended on trusses that emerge from this center. Double columns that act like suspenders come down to attach themselves to the existing building and also provide a framework to hold the ramp.
