FOOD AS AN ACTIVITY FOR REGENERATION OF POL MCR STUDIO 3

Lalabhai Ni pol has been closely associated with food-related activities ever since the past. The akkada is the heart of Lalabhai where various functions were conducted. On all occasions one common thing found was food. Food was an integral part of the festivals which were prepared by the women of the pol. Be it Bhatuk bhojan during Shravan or mittai during Navratri, food was one of the intangible element which brought together the women of the pol. A lot of collective cooking was done as a part of these events held. The women, in general, had a common interest in cooking. This was observed during the site study and through interaction. Hence food was identified as an activity to regenerate the pol keeping women of the pol in mind since they are primarily involved. The analysis started with locating different food-related businesses in the pol, interested women and simultaneously figuring potential locations for interventions. Another narrative that came up was that there is no shared space for these women to carry out their hobbies in privacy and to socialize with other women. The primary proposal is a Gruh Udyog by the women of the pol and for the women of the pol. This would be a shared space for the women of the pol where they can have their own space to carry forward their interests and also a place to earn from their interests.
