Afreen - A furniture piece inspired from Indian heritage

In this studio, I have worked on Bench redesign for Lucky restaurant, Ahmadabad. This restaurant is 70 years old and is built around graves, coffins and having food tables sitting right next to each other. The unique experience of dining with the dead is one of the most popular among locals and tourists. The existing furniture design allows the loose benches to move away resulting them not staying in required arrangement. The current materials used in the furniture, make the user uncomfortable while sitting. The inspiration for the design of the bench is ‘Charpai’ which is available in almost every household in Ahmadabad. The seat type is woven as it allows the user to have a breathable seating. The framework is made out of reclaimed wood for better strength and longevity. The design has a unique style of locking system so that the arrangement won’t go out of place. It has been designed keeping stackability in mind so that they could be kept on each other while cleaning up the floor daily. The form has been designed in such a way that it could blend well in any kind of interior space where the aesthetics of Indian heritage is sought.
