Revitalizing Bopal Through Transit-Oriented Development

While the macro level plans (Development Plans and Master Plans) provide an overall framework for development, they cannot be successfully implemented without careful micro level planning in both, green field and brown field areas. Bopal is a peri-urban area in the western periphery of Ahmedabad, Gujarat and lies outside the AMC limits. The interventions for the brown field development are planned through the mechanism of Local Area Plan for a delineated planning area of 3.2 sq.km. The Local Area Plan for Bopal is an integrated framework of land use, transportation networks, infrastructural services, and housing policies. The local area plan focuses on evolving Transit Oriented neighbourhoods, having characteristics of compact, mixed use, moderate to high density developments with focus on optimal land utilization and public transit along TOZ corridor by incentivized redevelopment model.
