Passive Comfort Lab is the first step in understanding the energy consumption of a building. The course encompasses the study of modes of heat transfer through the envelope, measurement and visualization of climate data, thermal comfort and building simulation. The study of all these concepts is applied in designing, building and assessing a solar cooker which is taken as an analogy for a built structure. Finally, the study is applied to a built structure and its energy consumption is assessed through simulations to find the most energy-efficient envelope strategy for a particular climate.
