A Quest of the Past: Rediscovering Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad has a very rich history and culture where the urban has managed to weave itself into this delicate yet significant social fabric. The walled city is the one of the hotspots exhibiting this - the city’s character, heritage and culture. It is an area bustling with social and religious activities, plethora of markets, street food and people. The old city, as many claim, is the essence of Ahmedabad. It was named a heritage city and World Heritage Site by UNESCO, following which multiple heritage walks have been developed. But unfortunately, the heritage structures which happen to be the city’s charm, are completely obscured by all the activities and development that have come up in a haphazard manner. Hence, the aim of the project is to create a heritage trail that would invoke a sense of anticipation and take one on a journey of discovery of some of the now, obscured heritage structures in the walled city of Ahmedabad. A pilot project for the development of more trails and improvising existing trails so as to create a network throughout the entire walled city to revive the historical importance of these obscured structures.
