CONTRASTING THE VERTICALITY

The take away from the first site visit was the immense nature of cliff depicting its verticality and the smallness of a human being in contrast to that. The project tries to maintain the very nature of cliff by bringing in the spur as a part of it. The development of the design started with keeping in mind the vacancy created by the spur and the cliff and the building on top of it would be acting as an opposite force holding the land and filling the in-between space. The spur acting as the central part of the building gave rise to the functions around. The openings are kept in a way which receives the visitors from one end and takes them on a journey where they can feel the part of the cliff by giving them both visual and tactile experience. The floor height is kept constant to maintain the horizontality of the building when seen from far. The circulation axis is aligned with the water movement from upper water catchment to the lower water catchment. The building serves the purpose of growing through time by carefully placing itself within the context, with lesser ecological hindrance.
