AIRPORT DESIGN INSPIRED FROM THE MARKETS OF AHMEDABAD

Market spaces reflects the culture of the city. The roots and the lifestyle of people. Ahmedabad is famous for its markets developed since years, still flowing in the old city full of crowd and colours. These markets are surrounded by famous heritage and eating zones. Along with the culture, these markets distribution is well managed between the small lanes just like the chaos management in public spaces like airport. Each market is famous and holds a historical significance in the city. In my above concept, I picked up four major market spaces and tried to analyse it in various aspects - from its organisation, axis, circulation, flow of people and furniture to its purpose. And compared them with the various functions/ areas of airport. As per my concept- in my design of part plan- arrival check-in and waiting area. I try to create a balance of rigid geometry and the smoothness of landscape, Both blends together in order to smoothen the process. The geometry creates a way finding (direction) and the landscape calms the stress and anxiety of visitors. The waiting area creates a barrier between the landscape and check-in, thus in order to merge them, the furniture element is designed such that it blends all the spaces together as one.
