Problems & Prospects of Housing: A Study of Homelessness

Food, clothing and shelter— being the basic needs of human life, are also important indicators to infer living standards of the humans. Out of these three, housing is considered to be the most critical factor since its consumption process can be dependent upon various aspects and because, it is a non-transparent aspect, unlike food and clothing which have simpler characteristics. In Housing Strategy Studio Vadodara is selected as the study area which is also the third largest city of Gujarat, India. It also includes understanding Vadodara through different parameters like demographic, economic and spatial growth as well as reviewing literature and certain documents to know it better. As a follow-up, household surveys are conducted to get insights to present scenario. Besides this, future land requirement is envisioned through ‘Predict & Provide’ approach and ‘Making Room approach’. Finally all income groups in the city are in schema of sub-strategy, according to housing choices and each student is allocated with one substrategy. My substrategy is to provide regulatory support to the homeless and hence, the portfolio will conclude with a discussion over the substrategy, after having a brief understanding of Vadodara as mentioned above.
