a walk through the city

This document is an appraisal of the part of Strategic Transport Planning, that has always been the most fundamental element of transport, throughout the history of humanity, though underrated in our traffic management strategies today: Walk Trips. The characteristics of a person’s trip on foot, its significance and benefits along with its relationship with the growing vehicular traffic, built form, environment, and culture of the place, in the developing countries today in the context of the City of Vadodara has been discussed in the document. The proposals have been developed with a vision of making the city of Vadodara a Walkable city through the provision of Pedestrian infrastructure and by making it accessible across all age groups, both physically and socially through a barrier-free design and proper traffic management. The proposals are attempts made to utilise Vadodara’s potential of being a compact and dense urban area along with its mixed-use character that has the capacity to generate short trips, by making the city more pedestrian friendly and promoting the Short trips on Non-Motorised modes of Transport.
