City and Bicycle

Vadodara, currently experiencing the pressure of population growth and consequent transport demand, the desire markable increase in private vehicles and being a smart city, transport sector plays a major role. The trend of using a two-wheeler for the daily commute, due to its convenience does not let people use public transport or non-motorized modes. The lack of proper pedestrian infrastructure further, pushes the people away from non-motorized modes. People do not walk or ride a bicycle even for shorter distances, due to difficulties in crossing, or due to over speeding. Encroachments like parking, informal activities reduce the consistency in the carriageway. It aims to highlight the existing condition of non-motorized transport in the city. It also throws light on the issues that lead to a low mode share of bicycle users of the city. Taking reference from the DP 2031, the work towards, it deals with the strategies to revive the declining bicycle system in the city and integrate it with the public transport, in the form of last mile connectivity, to strengthen the transportation system as a whole.
