STRATEGIC TRANSPORTATION PLAN - VADODARA 2040 | NMT

“Walking is the only form of transportation in which a man proceeds erect - like a man - on his own legs, under his own power. There is immense satisfaction in that. -Edward Abbey”
Strategic Transportation Plan for Vadodara has been framed for next 20 years i.e., 2040. Process of creation of STP 2040 involved data collection with respect to land use, transport and socio-economic characteristics for the case study. Based on the existing situation analysis which was done with the help of primary surveys, secondary surveys and four stage modelling, a long term vision for the city and alternative development strategies has been set-up as, “Mobility in Vadodara must be integrated, advanced and fast in order to stimulate economic growth, social equity, low carbon emission and an improved & safe life for its people”. This project thus includes 6 major proposals: Road Network; Public Transport System; Intermediate Para Transit System; Non-Motorized Transport System; Road Safety; Parking and Urban Freight Management. The study and unfolding of these different layers to understand and suggest the attainable measures for the city to develop thus becomes important. The decline of non-motorized transport in Vadodara leads to the search of accessibility, clarity and immediacy for the same. Thus the aim of NMT proposal is: “to reduce the carbon mobility and encourage the non-motorized travel keeping in consideration the safety of the people”. Through this study one will be able to get the knowledge and understanding of Vadodara and its transport system. Starting with the overview of the city and its existing scenario and issues, the required analysis is done and the city’s future growth is predicted. The proposals are proposed based on the data and requirement to resolve the issues. As an outcome of learning through the studio work, the understanding of the city and its transportation system related with various other aspects such as the city’s culture, available facilities and economy is summarized in the end.
