Bharuch is the administrative headquarters of Bharuch District. It is said to be the oldest port town in the country after Varanasi. Bharuch has a known history for about 8000 years. Its origin starts from the era of Bhirgu Rishi who have stayed here and named it as Bhrigukachcha. It located near the mouth of river narmada that opens up in Gulf of Khambat. It transformed from a fortified town to a growing urban area and to an industrial city after the introduction of GIDC. Ankleshwar is situated towards the south of Narmada which has transformed from a Jain pilgrimage town to one of the largest industrial estate due to discovery of 77 oil wells.Ankleshwar has grown tremendously in last 10 years. Bharuch and Ankleshwar has almost same population and they are growing at the same pace therefore BAUDA ( Bharuch and Ankleshwar Urban Development Authority ) was formed to prepare the development plan for the area.
