The urban Character

Urban nature is, for many people, a contradiction in terms. Urban spaces are all about control, hard edges, and the fabrication of an environment. Nature is wild, opportunistic, and fragile. Where is the overlap? Discussions around urban character mostly, tend to focus on architecture and street design and eliminates the impacts of planning framework on the area. To consider the long term effects of a responsive and inclusive planning strategy in a city, playing according to the the natural trend is key as opposed to regulating it. Thus, the intent of the study is to understand the rend that set the urban character in the micro and macro scale and arrive to the following objectives: Identify key things that make up the qualities of an urban areas. Prioritise the things that will improve the quality of such areas. Evolution of guidelines for safeguarding and improving character that could culminate in adoption of policy.
